Monster Mash

So India doesn't really celebrate Halloween [When we told Mamta-Ji about it in Hindi class she giggled and then said "ye Halo-weeeeen kya hai?"] and (being my favorite festival) I was a bit upset. That was, until we planned the best Halloween bash ever!

The invite to the Halloween Fiesta:

Hey all-

In the spirit of Halloween, we've decided to host a Halloween Fiesta. Poonum has brought some imported goodies from the Americas: refried beans, salsas, taco seasoning, taco shells, jalapenos... so get ready to get your spooky sombrero party on :)

• When: Saturday, October 31
• Time: 6:30pm
• Where: C-6 Lajpat Nagar III "central market ke paas; Haldiraams ke peeche"
• What to wear: COSTUMES (see costume rules below)
• What to bring: booze, candy, drinks, Mexican-inspired foods (cheese, tortillas, chips/snacks)
  

Let us know what you're bringing so that we don't have too much of one thing (although we can never have too much booze, candy or cheese)

Costume rules:

1. Everyone is given a 500 Rupee limit on their costume
2. Goal of the costume: to create an innovative ensemble inspired by and consisting of the crazy clothes found in our local markets
3. Costumes are required for entrance into the Halloween fiesta, and also gives us free drinks at the Living Room
   

The plan:

• 6:30pm - 8pm: Halloween Fiesta in Lajpat

Monster Mash wasn't as fun as the Halloween Fiesta. We didn't realize that the lounge would be so swanky and Brooklyn-y (not that i've been to brooklyn. but so i've heard). They refused to play Bollywood music despite Mark and Priya's numerous attempts to sway the dj's views ("We only play American music"). I think it was because they were dressed like Hitler:
But, we met some fun new people, saw some fun outfits (Obama!)
saw some not-so-fun outfits (face-painted indian "gangsters", and a guy dressed with a red feather cat/bird mask who kept trying to dance with all of us and finally settled for John), and received mango flavored candy on our way out.

one thing's for sure - our group sure loves to dance...
